Set up Salesforce for your sales team
Connecting Salesforce takes a few minutes, and most of the value comes from where the alerts land. Here’s the order that works, from connecting the org to the first week. The Salesforce app comes with the Corporate and Enterprise plans.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Pick who connects it. Freesbe works as the Salesforce user who connects it and sees only the records they can see. A sales operations admin, or a dedicated integration user, is best: if a sales rep connects it and later leaves, alerts stop when their user is turned off.
- Check your org allows it. If your Salesforce admin only lets approved apps connect, ask them to allow Freesbe in Setup → Connected Apps OAuth Usage first.
- Try a sandbox first if you like. You can connect a sandbox, try alerts there, and connect production afterwards.
Connect the org
Section titled “Connect the org”- In Freesbe, open Workspace settings → Integrations & apps → Integrations → CRM and find Salesforce.
- Tick Connect a sandbox if you’re connecting one, then click Connect Salesforce.
- Sign in to Salesforce as the user you picked and click Allow.
- Back in Freesbe, Salesforce shows Connected and your org’s name.
Send alerts where people act on them
Section titled “Send alerts where people act on them”Create channels for the conversations alerts should start, then add one alert for each:
| Channel | Alerts to post | Smallest opportunity |
|---|---|---|
#sales |
New opportunities, Opportunities won, Opportunities lost | 5,000 |
#leadership |
Opportunities won | 50,000 |
#new-leads |
New leads | (leave empty) |
#support |
New cases | (leave empty) |
Under Salesforce alerts, click Add alert, pick the channel and the alerts, and set Smallest opportunity to post to keep small ones out. Then use Send a test alert from the alert’s ⋯ menu to see where it lands.
Freesbe checks Salesforce every five minutes, so alerts arrive within about five minutes. They start with what happens after you add them.
Decide on link previews
Section titled “Decide on link previews”Previews show an opportunity’s amount, stage and owner under any Salesforce link someone posts. They’re on by default. Everyone in the conversation sees them, guests included, so if your team shares channels with customers, consider turning Show a preview under Salesforce links off.
Show your team the two shortcuts
Section titled “Show your team the two shortcuts”Post this in #sales on day one:
Salesforce is in Freesbe. Type
/salesforceand a name, email or opportunity to find it without leaving the conversation (only you see the answer). On any message, choose ⋯ → Log to Salesforce to save it to a contact’s or lead’s activity, with a link back here.
After the first week
Section titled “After the first week”- Ask the team which alerts they skim past, and raise the smallest opportunity or move those alerts to a quieter channel.
- Check Last alert under each alert: one that never posts usually points at a channel nobody needs or a filter that’s too strict.
See Salesforce for every option. Something not working? See Salesforce alerts aren’t posting and Salesforce won’t connect.
